Opened in the fall of 2019, the Ashokan Rail Trail (“ART”) is a shared-use recreational trail running 11.5 miles along the northern edge of the Ashokan Reservoir between Basin Road in West Hurley and Route 28A in Boiceville.
Is Ashokan rail trail paved?
The Ashokan Rail Trail is 10-12 feet wide and paved with crushed stone. Many sections are wooded, offering shade and lots of color in autumn.

Can you boat on Ashokan Reservoir?
Our reservoirs offer excellent recreational opportunities by boat. All boaters must obtain a free DEP Access Permit and all boats must be steam cleaned by a DEP certified steam cleaning vendor before being placed on a resevoir.
Can you swim in Ashokan Reservoir?

The Catskill Mountains have approximately 1,500 to 2,000 black bears. Black bears can be found on almost all of the mountain ranges in the Catskill Mountains. The Catskill Mountains have the highest density population of Black Bears in New York State. There are NO grizzly bears, brown bears, or polar bears in New York.
Are dogs allowed on the Ashokan Rail Trail?
A: Yes. Dog on leash are allowed. We have supplied dog waste stations with bags and containers for disposal so please clean up after your dog to help protect our drinking water supply and trail.
Can you fish in the Ashokan Reservoir?
Fishing: Ashokan, meaning “Place of Fish” is aptly named given the recreational fishing opportunities for both coldwater and warmwater fish that the reservoir provides. Ashokan Reservoir is stocked with over 16,000 brown trout every spring.

What is it like to fish in the Rondout Reservoir?
Rondout Reservoir is a great location for shore fishing because high volumes of cold water from Pepacton, Cannonsville and Neversink all are routed through this reservoir. This high volume of water keeps the water moving and cool. In the summer, cool water is often only 10 or 15 feet down compared to 20 or 25 feet down in many other reservoirs.
How does Yonkers get its water from Rondout?
Rondout water ordinarily makes its way to West Branch Reservoir and then Kensico Reservoir for further settling. After mixing with Catskill system water, it leaves Kensico Reservoir through aqueducts to reach the Hillview Reservoir in Yonkers, at the City’s northern boundary, where it enters the water supply distribution system.
Where is restrondout reservoir?
Rondout Reservoir straddles the Ulster/Sullivan County border along the southern edge of the Catskill Park, approximately 6 miles northwest of the Village of Ellenville and more than 65 miles northwest of New York City.
Is Rondout part of the Delaware or Hudson River watershed?
Since those three are in the Delaware River watershed, Rondout is considered by the city’s Department of Environmental Protection to be part of the Delaware system despite being firmly within the Hudson River watershed itself.
