Lifeguard Course Pre-Requisites
- Jump/dive into deep water.
- Swim 50 metres in less than 60 seconds.
- Swim 100 metres continuously on front and back in deep water.
- Tread water for 30 seconds.
- Surface dive to the floor of the pool.
- Climb out unaided without ladder/steps and where the pool design permits.
What do you do in a NPLQ Course?
The National Pool Lifeguard Qualification course is a minimum of 36 hours, followed by a practical assessment on swimming pool theory, water safety and how to spot potential hazards. The course will teach you the practical skills of lifeguarding, such as water rescue, casualty recovery, CPR and first aid.
How do I renew my NPLQ?
Renewal within the period of validity of your existing NPLQ is straightforward, requiring completion of a three-to-four-hour renewal assessment. This includes a full assessment of your lifeguard knowledge and skills by an independent assessor.
What age can you train to be a lifeguard?
You need to be 16+. Must be able to jump, much preferably, dive into deep water. There are many different entrances to the pool that you may be asked to do, being comfortable getting into the water in an active way is key.
Can you fail the NPLQ?
If an NPLQ candidate fails their assessment, how many times can they retake the assessment? A candidate can retake the failed section(s) as many times as they wish within 28 days from the date of the first failure (28 days includes the day in which assessment part(s) were passed).
Is NPLQ difficult?
As such the RLSS NPLQ is a rigorous and challenging course that rewards hard work and constant interaction. If during any part of the practical sessions you feel uncomfortable or in danger, stop and ask our instructor for guidance.
