Job Requirements
- Age: Applicants must be at least 19 years old at the time of application and must be at least 20 years old at the time of appointment. [

What is an H 2 firefighter?
Under general supervision, an H 2 Firefighter engages in firefighting and related activities for the saving of life and property; administers first responder treatment, including first aid; and responds to a variety of emergency situations involving public safety and medical care.
What is a reserve firefighter?
Reserve firefighters are dedicated professionals who assist local fire departments in events of arson, medical emergencies, natural disasters, as well as search and rescue operations. To become a reserve firefighter, you must possess the appropriate background, certification, training and service requirements.
Do you need a degree to be a firefighter?
At the very minimum, you’ll need to obtain a high school diploma or GED. Many firefighters earn a degree in fire science to advance their career. It’s also wise to become an EMT. Some departments might even require an EMT certification; larger departments may require a paramedic’s license.

Are reserve firefighters paid?
Unlike volunteer firefighters, retained firefighters are paid. They are paid an annual “retainer fee” for being on call and receive further pay for each emergency call they respond to.
