What’s the movie shining about?
Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) becomes winter caretaker at the isolated Overlook Hotel in Colorado, hoping to cure his writer’s block. He settles in along with his wife, Wendy (Shelley Duvall), and his son, Danny (Danny Lloyd), who is plagued by psychic premonitions. As Jack’s writing goes nowhere and Danny’s visions become more disturbing, Jack discovers the hotel’s dark secrets and begins to unravel into a homicidal maniac hell-bent on terrorizing his family.

What is The Shining power?
Dick Hallorann (Scatman Crothers) tells Danny (Danny Lloyd) that “shining” is, at its core, a fusion of telepathy and clairvoyance. Being able to shine means being able to communicate with others using the mind, and gives people the ability to see things that have happened in the past, or will happen in the future.

The scene when Jack writes obsessively on the typewriter “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy” was re-shot a number of times, but changing the language of the typed copy to Italian, French, Spanish, and German, in order to match the respective dubbed languages.
What is the meaning of the ending of The Shining?
Stanley Kubrick said, “The ballroom photograph at the very end suggests the reincarnation of Jack.” That means that Jack Torrance is the reincarnation of a guest or someone on staff at the Overlook in 1921. The Overlook seems to have the power to recall reincarnated versions of its past guests and employees.
